Who We Are |

Our History |
When women cast their first votes in 1920, the League was there to provide accurate, unbiased election information. The League of Women Voters of the United States was founded at the Congress Hotel in Chicago on February 14, 1920, in anticipation of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which extended to women the right to vote.
The Illinois League was organized that same year and the League of Women Voters of Oak Park and River Forest just four years later, at the Oak Park Arms Hotel on May 13, 1924. |
